Pantherella Fine-Gauge Escorial Wool Socks
Pantherella are the only makers of Escorial Wool socks in the world.
Once the preserve of 16th Century Spanish royalty, there are now just three flocks of Escorial sheep remaining in the world and Pantherella has the exclusive rights to the manufacture of socks from this rare and luxurious fleece.
Our Escorial Wool is processed in Australia and then spun into superb quality yarn in Italian mills.
Pantherella Escorial Wool Socks are knitted on a 200-needle, fine-gauge machine, but feel slightly thicker than other wool socks.
Escorial wool socks are exquisitely soft, comfortably warm and snug and have a smoother appearance than other fine gauge wool socks.
What is Escorial Wool?
Exclusively spun in Italy for Pantherella to a special count for knitting into socks, Escorial is a rare and luxurious wool from a small sheep originating from the Spanish Royal flocks of El Escorial. Today these sheep are only to be found in small numbers in Australia and New Zealand.
The Escorial fibre is naturally curly, like a coiled spring, which means that air is trapped between each strand providing greater bounce and insulation than ‘standard’ sheep’s wool.
This natural flexible characteristic results in a warm, durable and extremely soft yarn with a natural elasticity which affords a superb comfort and fit.
